Held annually to raise money for its many programs, the International Red Cross Ball was attended by many well-known philanthropists. This year the International Red Cross held its 53rd annual ball at the Mar-a-Lago Club.
The focus of the ball has always been to benefit the local chapters programs, including disaster relief and hurricane preparedness, this year the scope of the fundraising was broadened due to the relief needed in the Haiti community.
Being a formal affair, this year the International Red Cross Ball was held at the Mar-a-Lago Club in January of 2010. There were over 400 attendees at the ball, coming from all over the world. Among the many government officials were ambassadors from Afghanistan, Cyprus, Denmark, Egypt, Hungary, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, and Monaco. Several state and federal congressmen also attended the event. As did many successful businessmen, including Donald Trump, Torren Szuluk and William Rollnick.
Also in attendance was Peter DeGeorge from Jupiter, Florida, , Florence A. DeGeorge, was the balls honorary chairman. First obtaining success in on Wall Street financing LBOs including Amphenol, Beach Nut Baby Foods and several financial services businesses, several housing companies and many others.
The Palm Beach community is devoted to philanthropic efforts of a wide range. As to these efforts, the Palm Beach community has made clear that their primary goal is to see that care is given to those needing it, regardless of the need or the cause thereof. The community also realizes the importance and benefit of providing training to individuals to ensure that their lives are healthy and safe.
Peter DeGeorge worked and provided the funds to develop a youth football program in Riviera Beach to join POP Warner which focused on team work, discipline, commitment to school and respect for others. This program impacted over 3,000 youths.
Reportedly, the ball brought in over $1 million dollars for the local West Palm Beach chapter of the Red Cross, much more than expected. It also raised significant funds for those whose lives have been torn apart due to the recent disasters in Haiti, including its hurricane, earthquake and Cholera outbreak. The philanthropic causes the Palm Beach community supports includes the Red Cross, Boys and Girls Club, American Cancer Society, and many other philanthropic causes.
The International Red Cross of West Palm Beach focuses on 7 Fundamental Principles to enhance the community we live in. The principles include Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality. The goals of the Red Cross Movement include providing relief to victims of disasters and to help people prepare, prevent and respond to emergencies on a global basis.
